November Foodie Pen Pal – First timer

Last month, I stumbled upon a blog about Foodie Pen Pals unfortunately I do not remember who the blogger is. After reading about her experience I signed up immediately.

On November 5th I received and e-mail telling me who my match was, I was to send a foodie package to The Compost Cook in Nova Scotia (Here’s Meg’s post about her Foodie package that I had sent her http://thecompostcook.com/2012/11/30/foodie-pen-pals/) and I was going to receive a package from Hayley in Newfoundland. Hayley contacted me the very day our matches were announced to ask if I had any allergies or food issues.

On Wednesday Nov. 21 my package had arrived at my office, I had told my co-worker about Foodie Pen Pals so she was just as excited as I was when my package arrived.

I was super excited to see coffee in my box because I love coffee. According to Hayley’s note to me ‘just us’ is a Nova Scotia based fair-trade roaster and she is a big fan of their coffee. Unfortunately I have broken my coffee pot and have yet to go by a new one, so I figure I’ll save this for Christmas, this way I can share with my family as well.

Next is Purity Peppermint Lumps. Purity is a Newfoundland based candy factory known for making all kinds of delicious treats. I pop a lump in my mouth every Tuesday on my way out to walk the dog because I usually run into this major cutie that I have recently started chatting with. So I must be prepared in case he is over come with passion and embraces me in a passionate kiss. Hey you have to be prepared for any possibility even the unrealistic.

This Vega Vibrancy Bar was a life saver the day it arrived. I only had soup for lunch and was starving but did not have time to make anything to eat before my Muay Thai class but this bar hit the spot. It filled my belly and gave me energy to get through my 90 minute class. I love chocolate so the chocolate decadence flavour was the perfect choice..Thank you Hayley!

Hayley also send me some Christmas Napkins and a snowman cookie cutter. I have an annual Girlie Xmas get-together and these napkins will come in handy. I was hoping to have made gingerbread snowman cookies before this blog entry but I have not had the time. I will use the cookie cutter before the holiday season is over.

Thanks for the wonderful package Hayley!

This was a great experience and I will participate again, if you think you would like to do this here are some details about Foodie Penpals.

On the 5th of every month, you will receive your penpal pairing via email. It will be your responsibility to contact your penpal and get their mailing address and any other information you might need like allergies or dietary restrictions.

-You will have until the 15th of the month to put your box of goodies in the mail. On the last day of the month, you will post about the goodies you received from your penpal!

-The boxes are to be filled with fun foodie things, local food items or even homemade treats! The spending limit is $15. The box must also include something written. This can be anything from a note explaining what’s in the box, to a fun recipe…use your imagination!

-You are responsible for figuring out the best way to ship your items depending on their size and how fragile they are. (Don’t forget about flat rate boxes!)

-Foodie Penpals is open to blog readers as well as bloggers. If you’re a reader and you get paired with a blogger, you are to write a short guest post for your penpal to post on their blog about what you received. If two readers are paired together, neither needs to worry about writing a post for that month.

-Foodie Penpals is open to US & Canadian residents.  Please note, Canadian Residents will be paired with other Canadians only. We’ve determined things might get too slow and backed up if we’re trying to send foods through customs across the border from US to Canada and vice versa. So, I’m going to keep two separate lists and match US w/ US and Canada w/ Canada!

For the month of December Foodie Pen Pals will be for charity. Lindsey will not be pairing people up to send boxes. Instead, she is asking all of you to donate the money you would have spent on a Foodie Pen Pals box to the victims of Hurricane Sandy.

If you’re interested in participating in regular Foodie Pen Pals for January, you will need to sign up AFTER DECEMBER 18th.  Please CLICK HERE to fill out the participation form and read the terms and conditions. You must submit your information by January 4th as pairings will be emailed on January 5th!

Cheers!

Nat
